London disagrees with EU requirements – the deal is under threat

Progress made in London’s negotiations with Brussels is “very limited”.

Such a statement was made on Friday, May 15, by David Frost, the British representative at the negotiations on Brexit.

According to him, the parties will not be able to reach an agreement if the European Union insists on the implementation of “new and unbalanced proposals for the so-called equal playing field. In particular, he criticized Brussels’ position on access to British fishing waters.

“We can not agree on agreements that are clearly unbalanced and contrary to the interests of the British fishing industry”, –  said the diplomat.

Thus, there remains only one round of negotiations after which London will have to make a decision: to request an extension of the transition period or try to conclude a deal before the end of the year. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has repeatedly ruled out the first option. Thus, there is a chance that the transition period will end on 31 December without a deal.

“We really need to change the EU’s approach to the next round”, –  Frost said. – “The UK will continue to work hard to reach an agreement as long as there is a constructive process and continues to believe that it is possible”.
