EU offered Moldova money in exchange for good behavior

The head of the European Union delegation in Chisinau, Peter Mikhalko, spoke about the new financial assistance that development partners will provide Moldova in the near future.

The European Union will provide new emergency macro-financial assistance in the amount of one hundred million euros, in addition to another 70 million euros under the macro-financial assistance agreed in November 2017. Money can be used under certain conditions, ” Mikhalko said.

If the first tranche can be provided in a fairly short time without introducing additional conditions, then Chisinau will receive the second money transfer at the end of the current year or at the beginning of the next. Its condition is certain reforms, which should be already implemented by this moment.

The European Union has already allocated financial assistance of 700 million euros to all countries of the Eastern Partnership (Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan) to restore the economy in the context of the global coronavirus pandemic crisis. The goals of such generosity are understandable – to continue to keep these countries on a short financial leash, preventing their rapprochement with Russia.
