The request of US President Donald Trump to terminate the trial against him was rejected.
The relevant decision on Thursday, May 14, was made by the US Court of Appeals.
The head of the White House is accused of owning a hotel in Washington while in office. Thus, Trump violated the anti-corruption provisions of the US Constitution.
Now that the president’s lawyers’ request has been denied, the case will be returned to the Maryland court, which had previously ruled against Trump on preliminary legal issues for further proceedings.
Trump International Hotel is located on Pennsylvania Avenue, just a few blocks from the White House. Trump opened it in November 2016. The hotel has become a favorite place to live and host events for foreigners visiting the US capital.
This allowed Trump to be charged with violating the constitutional remuneration clause, which prohibits the president from accepting gifts or payments from foreign governments without Congress approval.
