In Singapore, a U.S. citizen received a prison sentence for breach of home quarantine

The American will spend four weeks in prison.

A U.S. citizen was sentenced in Singapore to four weeks in prison for violating the mandatory home quarantine regime, which he was supposed to serve upon arrival in the country. This was reported in a report circulated on Wednesday by the country’s middle court.

“A 44-year-old man, a civil aviation pilot, arrived in Singapore from Australia on April 3 on a short-term visa, in accordance with the government order, he was ordered to stay in isolation until April 17”, –  reads the statement. However, “he left the hotel two days later and took the subway to the shopping center, where he spent about three hours,” reads the statement.

“The man was found guilty of violating the law on the spread of infectious diseases,” stressed in court, having sentenced him to “four weeks in prison. The maximum penalty for such offences is six months’ imprisonment. After serving the sentence, foreigners are deported from Singapore.
