Nord Stream-2 may be exempted from EU gas directive obligations by end of May

The issue of exemption of Nord Stream-2 from the implementation of the norms of the new gas directive of the European Union will be resolved before May 24.

This was said on Tuesday, May 12, by a representative of the Federal Network Office of Germany Fite Wulf.
According to him, the department has already sent a draft decision on the case to the participants of the process in order to hear their position. The document says that the gas pipeline does not meet the prerequisites of the German law on the energy economy, which would free it from regulation. The deadline for consideration ended last Friday.

“It is assumed that the decision will now be made until May 24, 2020”, – the official said.

A year ago, the European Parliament approved an updated directive according to which gas supplying companies and energy transporting companies should be separated. That is, the Nord Stream-2 operator should not depend on Gazprom, and 50% of the throughput should be reserved for third-party suppliers.
