The suppliers were not confused by the fact that this variety of potatoes is intended only for the production of fries, and not for fresh consumption.
According to the portal on fruit and vegetable markets of EastFruit, industrial potatoes from the Netherlands, which were to be recycled, went to the Ukrainian market at cost.
“Due to the closure of catering facilities in the Netherlands, the potatoes, which were to be used for fries, had no sense to recycle, as they were not in demand. About 2 million tons of potatoes were to be thrown out in the Netherlands and Belgium, but another option emerged – to sell them to Ukraine at cost”, – the portal said.
Although the variety is intended only for the production of fries and not for consumption in fresh form, it did not confuse suppliers of potatoes to the Ukrainian market. Wholesalers in Ukraine paid for the goods at 30-35 cents or 8-9 hryvnia per kilo, which is comparable to the prices of Ukrainian potatoes.
