Coronavirus outbreaks after quarantine restrictions were recorded in South Korea, China and Germany.
Countries that have removed quarantine restrictions have recorded coronavirus outbreaks. This was stated by WHO Director-General Tedros Adan Gebreisus at a briefing in Geneva, reports CNN on Tuesday, May 12.
“Over the weekend, we saw signs of challenges that may be ahead. In South Korea, bars and clubs were closed because a confirmed case led to the need to track a large number of contacts”, – Gebreisus said.
“Germany also reported an increase in cases after the restrictions were lifted. Fortunately, all three countries have systems in place to detect and respond to outbreaks”, – the WHO head added.
The organization has issued recommendations that need to be taken into account before the quarantine can be lifted.
“WHO is working closely with governments to ensure that key public health measures are maintained to address the removal of quarantines. Until there is a vaccine, a comprehensive package of measures is our most effective tool for overcoming”, – said Gebreisus.
According to Yonhap, a new outbreak of COVID-19 has been recorded in Seoul and neighboring cities after quarantine was eased. At least 101 people were identified as infected after visiting nightclubs in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeong. This occurred when a 29-year-old man with a coronavirus visited five nightclubs and a bar in Seoul’s Itaevon district on May 1-2. The authorities then decided to close the entertainment facilities as a matter of urgency.
Recall that earlier WHO updated the plan to fight COVID-19. The organization will need more money to respond to the pandemic, the budget will be increased to $1.7 billion.
The WHO also announced the threat of measles and polio outbreaks. Disturbances in immunization services caused by the Coronavirus pandemic could lead to outbreaks of other infectious diseases.
