Russian troops assisting Italy in the fight against coronavirus laid wreaths at the monument to Soviet soldiers participating in the Italian Resistance in the Maggiore cemetery in Milan.
Also, Russians paid tribute to the Italian fighters against fascism on the territory of the Field of Glory memorial complex, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense reports.
The ceremony was attended by the deputy armor of the Russian Armed Forces for Defense of the RF Armed Forces, Major General Sergey Kikot, Consul General of Russia in Milan Alexander Nurizade, Deputy President of the Lombardy Region for International Relations Alan Christian Ritsi, Vice Mayor of Milan Anna Scavuto, Chairman of the Association of Partisans of the Province of Milan Roberto Chenati, Russian military and consular officers.
“The ceremonies that took place today emphasize that we still honor those who saved us then. Of course, it is necessary to attract children to these actions, but in connection with the coronavirus we were forced to reduce the number of participants. The help that Russia provided Italy in the fight against coronavirus shows that now we are in solidarity with those ideals for which the partisans fought, ” said Skavutso, referring to the Russian military.
Roberto Chenati, chairman of the Milanese partisan association, noted that Soviet soldiers helped free Italy from fascism.
