Russian diplomats planted the Garden of Memory in honor of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War at the Russian embassy in the United States.
This is reported by the press service of the embassy.
The head of the diplomatic mission Anatoly Antonov noted that it was originally planned to lay the lilac garden together with the ambassadors of the CIS countries, but due to the large-scale epidemic of coronavirus in the U.S. it was not possible to do so.
“Nevertheless, I believe that today we have laid down, established a new tradition in the Russian embassy – the lilac garden”, – Antonov said. – “And why the lilac? Yes, because the Soviet soldiers returned in the spring of 1945 and they were met at the stations, half-stations with bouquets of lilacs – a symbol of Victory, a symbol of happiness”.
