Guterres urged to evaluate measures to combat the pandemic after its end

After the end of the coronavirus pandemic, it will be possible to look back and study how all parties acted in a crisis, but this is not the time for this, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in an interview.

“When we finally turn the page with COVID-19, we will have time to look around and understand how such a disease arose, how it brought so much devastation around the globe and how all parties reacted to the crisis”, – Guterres said.

According to him, the lessons learned will be extremely important for the effective solution of such problems, as they may arise in the future.

“But now is not the time. And not the time to reduce the resources allocated to the operations of WHO or any other humanitarian organization in the fight against the virus”, – Guterres said.

In April, the US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of WHO funding. The Trump administration accuses the organization of not responding quickly to the outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19. At the same time, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not rule out that Washington would never restore the suspended funding of WHO.

On March 11, the World Health Organization announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection with COVID-19 pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 3.7 million cases of infection have been recorded in the world, about 260 thousand people have died.
