According to the publication, the contract value was $213 million.

The Venezuelan opposition has signed a $213 million contract with the American security firm Silvercorp to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. This was reported by The Washington Post on Thursday. According to it, the agreement was signed back in October 2019.

“In October, the plan [to overthrow Maduro] developed before the signing of the agreement <…> The wording of the document left no doubt about its purpose: “Operation to apprehend / oust Nicolas Maduro, the replacement of the current regime by the recognized president of Venezuela [as the opposition leader is called in the West] Juan Guaydo”, –  the newspaper notes.

The newspaper provides a copy of the contract signed by Guaydo and head of Silvercorp, Jordan Goodro. “The service provider and the [Venezuelan opposition] administration agree that the minimum duration of the contract is 495 days <…> The administration agrees to pay the minimum part of the funds required to implement the agreement, which [in total] is $212.9 million”, –  the text reads.

On May 3, the Venezuelan authorities reported that they managed to prevent the infiltration from Colombia of a group of mercenaries who intended to carry out a coup d’état in the Bolivarian Republic and kill the President. According to Maduro, among the mercenaries were American citizens who are members of the Security Service of the White House head Donald Trump. During interrogation, Luke Alexander Denman, a United States citizen detained for participation in the operation, stated that the mercenaries should have taken control of the airport and taken Maduro there to take him to the United States.
