The US Ambassador to Belgrade Anthony Godfrey criticized Serbia for calling the organization sponsored by George Soros a “hybrid regime”.
This was reported by the Serbian edition of News Front.
Earlier, the non-governmental organization Freedom House, one of the largest sponsors of which is George Soros, a billionaire and architect of color revolutions, released a report. It analyzed 29 countries for compliance with democratic standards. In the end, the authors came to the conclusion that everywhere – from Central Europe to Central Asia – there is a “stunning crisis of democracy”.
Serbia, as stated in the report, “for the first time since 2003, is no longer classified as democracy”.
“I am worried about such assessments. Fair elections can be a way for Serbia to show that it is committed to democratic values”, – the American ambassador commented on the situation.
His statement, as well as the accusations from the NGO Soros, were made against the backdrop of how the Serb pro-Western opposition launched protests. Lacking support, opposition forces are demanding the postponement of the elections, allegedly in order to make them “fair”.
Today, the leader of the Doors movement, Bosko Obradovic, several deputies and pro-Western activists tried to block the entrance to the parliament building. Lately Obradovic protested at the residence of the president and was even able to break through the fence. The day before yesterday Obradovich thwarted the parliamentary meeting, taking the place of speaker and starting to blow the whistle when lawmakers discussed the question of lifting the state of emergency. While he was being taken out of the courtroom by security officers, he called on the security forces to “rebel and not tolerate the criminal clan of Neboisha Stefanovich at the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”.
“Dear officers and patriots, how can you allow Alexandar Vulin to be your defense minister? Honorary representatives of the Information Security Agency, how can you tolerate cruel treatment for party purposes by the Serbian Progressive Party?” – the opposition said.
In connection with calls for a coup, the Ministry of Defense of Serbia intends to institute criminal proceedings against Obradovic.
Serbian President Alexander Vučić has already commented on the protests at his residence, calling them irresponsible, given that the participants violated the recommendations of the doctors. At the same time, he noted that education does not allow him to publicly discuss his political opponents.
“I am not a favorite of Soros and others like him. Why should I attack them? Because they shout curses at me? I can answer the idea. When, for example, at the peak of the epidemic, they offered almost two million pensioners to go out for an hour, this was unreasonable. Twenty days later, we found a solution that will protect people from infection. I can discuss ideas, but I will not personally discuss everyone. I know all their criticism against me. They have nothing to do, their idea: “Hate Vucic”. I think they need to offer some kind of plan, a program, to be consistent”, – the President said.
He also drew attention to the fact that the opposition, which now requires the postponement of parliamentary elections, had previously criticized the authorities for the same.
“They condemned me for postponing the election. So they themselves wanted this. We postponed it to the end of April, then the epidemic began, we postponed it to June. They need September now. Decide already what exactly you need. Even if we scheduled a vote for the new year, they would say that this is not the time”, – Vučić said.
It should be noted that opposition protests began from the moment of the introduction of a state of emergency in the country. During the so-called balcony actions, people rattled pans and whistled in protest against quarantine measures. On May 7, quarantine was virtually lifted, and the protests moved to the streets.
