20.5 million people fired in a month in USA

The unemployment rate in the U.S. reached 14.7% due to the economic impact of the coronavirus epidemic COVID-19.

This was reported in the U.S. Department of Labor on Friday, May 8.

According to the federal agency, the number of jobs in the country decreased by more than 20.5 million in April. These figures are the largest since the Great Depression and more than twice as high as losses during the economic crisis in 2008.

The situation was commented on by Julia Pollack, economist at the American labour exchange “ZipRecruiter”.

“We will no longer see mostly employed job seekers looking for better matches and higher salaries. You will see job seekers desperately trying to pay their bills”, – she told The New York Times.
