Maduro accused Trump and Pompeo of organizing an invasion of Venezuela

On May 3, the Venezuelan authorities captured a group of mercenaries who intended to carry out a coup d’état.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused his American counterpart Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo of organizing a failed invasion of the Bolivarian Republic, which took place on May 3. He made the corresponding statement on Wednesday during a press conference in Caracas, which was broadcast on Twitter.

“If this [invasion] had gone well, they [USA] would have tried to escalate the conflict. <…> Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo are behind it”, –  said Maduro.

On May 3, Venezuelan authorities reported that they managed to prevent the infiltration of a group of mercenaries from Colombia, who intended to carry out a coup d’état in the Bolivarian Republic and kill the president. According to Maduro, among the mercenaries were American citizens who are members of the Security Service of the White House head Donald Trump.
