The UN is concerned about frequent ceasefire violations in Idlib

UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stefan Dujarrik said that between 30 April and 4 May, artillery shelling affected nine regions in Idlib, as well as one in North Aleppo and two in Hama.

The UN has recorded almost daily ceasefire violations in northwest Syria. This was reported on Tuesday by the official representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stefan Dujarrik.

“We are extremely concerned about the safety of four million civilians in northwest Syria”, –  he said. – “Despite the March 6 ceasefire agreement between Russia and Turkey, reports of crossfire are received almost daily”, –  Dujarrik said. – “Between 30 April and May 4, artillery fire reportedly affected nine areas in Idlib as well as one in North Aleppo and two in Hama.”

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that the republic “no longer intends to tolerate increased attacks in the security zone in Idlib, which are carried out contrary to the agreements on Syria”. At the same time, the Syrian State agency SANA has been continuously reporting in recent months on how terrorists in Idlib are violating the ceasefire.

The Presidents of the Russian Federation and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan, at talks in Moscow on 5 March, agreed on a ceasefire and a number of other measures aimed at resolving the situation in Idlib. Their agreements stipulated that hostilities in Idlib would cease along the entire line of contact with the entry into force of the ceasefire on 6 March. On 15 March, the Russian Federation and Turkey began joint patrols along the Aleppo-Latakia (M-4) highway, along which a security corridor would be established.
