Russian and Turkish military patrol route in Idlib province doubled

The first joint Russian-Turkish patrol of the M4 highway section in the de-escalation zone took place on March 15.

The length of the route for Russian and Turkish military patrols along the section of the M4 highway in the Syrian province of Idlib has been doubled. This was announced on Tuesday by the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria.

“In accordance with the agreements between the Presidents of Russia and Turkey, reached on 5 March 2020 in Moscow, on 5 May, the next, eighth in a row, joint Russian-Turkish patrol of the section of the highway M4 in the de-escalation zone of Idlib, connecting the cities of Aleppo and Latakia. Length of a route has been increased twice more than previous patrols”, – is marked in the message.

According to the Center, two armored personnel carriers BTR-82A and an armored car “Tiger” were involved in joint patrols from the Russian side. The movement of the joint Russian-Turkish convoy from the air was controlled by unmanned aerial vehicles of the Russian Air Force. Cooperation between the parties was organized through the Joint Coordination Centre.
