According to the EU representative, the summit will reaffirm “the region’s continued commitment to political, economic and social transformation”.
The EU heads of state and government will hold an online summit Wednesday with the leaders of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and unrecognised Kosovo to discuss their European perspectives. However, as the EU representative told journalists in Brussels on Tuesday, European leaders have no intention of touching on the issue of joining the community.
Initially, the EU-Western Balkans summit was to take place in Zagreb and be the main event of the Croatian Presidency of the EU Council, which will last until July 1. However, due to the pandemic, the meeting was first cancelled, and then European Council President Charles Michel decided to hold it by videoconference.
According to the EU representative, the summit will reaffirm “the region’s continued commitment to political, economic and social transformation,” while the issue of EU enlargement will not be discussed, as it is not on the agenda of the meeting. The sides will also discuss cooperation in the fight against coronavirus and its consequences.
It is expected that the summit participants will adopt a joint declaration.
