A new phase of military exercises “Bolivarian Shield – 2020” will begin in the coming hours in Venezuela. This was reported on Sunday by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.

“Our Commander-in-Chief has ordered to start a new phase of military exercises “Bolivarian Shield” throughout the country in the coming hours. Priority will be given to the coastal region”, –  said the press service of the head of the ministry, Vladimir Padrino Lopez.

Previously, the Venezuelan authorities reported that they had managed to prevent the invasion of Colombia by a group of mercenaries who intended to carry out a coup d’état in the Bolivarian Republic. According to the President of the Constitutional Assembly of Venezuela, Giosdado Cabello, the mercenaries have tried to infiltrate Venezuela by boat from the sea.

In February, the President of the South American Republic, Nicolas Maduro, announced that this year Venezuela will conduct a surprise military exercise, without prior announcement of the starting day. According to the President, the maneuvers will take place within the exercise “Bolivarian Shield – 2020”, the first phase of which was held on February 15-16.
