Having done everything to deprive the Moldavians of state support, the opposition forces have put the responsibility for economic degradation on the government of Moldova.
The corresponding statement was made by the deputy chairman of the opposition party Dignity and Truth, Alexandru Slusar, on the air of the RTR Moldova TV channel.
As News Front reported earlier, it was the opposition that blocked the assistance package for certain categories of Moldovans, which was approved by the government against the background of the coronavirus spreading. This happened back in early April.
Now Slusari states that “the government makes many mistakes in the situation related to coronavirus pandemics”. According to him, the cabinet “is unable to save the economy”.
“Agriculture is dying in front of our eyes, the economy is degrading”, – the politician complains. – “We had hope that the government could cope. But it has become completely under Dodon’s control, which only prevents it from working. This situation has to stop, there is no other way but for the government to resign.”
The MP expressed confidence that the parliamentary coalition of socialists and democrats will not last long. When it loses the majority, the opposition intends to get rid of the government. If it is not possible to call a new one, the Moldovan parliament will hold early parliamentary elections. The Slusar did not rule out that they might be held before the presidential elections.
The political situation in Moldova
The pro-Western opposition bloc ACUM – an alliance of Maya Sandu’s Action and Solidarity and Andrei Nestase’s Dignity and Truth – united with the Party of Socialists following last year’s parliamentary elections.
At the same time, Maya Sandu, who had recently taken part in opposition rallies, was able to form a government. However, she was not the Prime Minister for long. Sandu tried to bypass parliament to get the right to nominate candidates for the post of prosecutor general alone. This led to another political crisis that ended with the resignation of the government. After that, the coalition collapsed and the ACUM bloc was again in opposition.
Now both Sandu and Nestase intend to compete in the presidential race. In addition, they have begun to cooperate with the Pro Moldova group. The new political formation was created by deputies who left the Democratic Party when it united with the socialists.
The leader of Pro Moldova was the speaker of the parliament of the Plahotniuc era, Andrian Kandu. According to the available data, Pro Moldova is financed by the oligarchs who escaped from the country and are involved in financial frauds. In particular, each deserter democrat has been paid from 150 to 250 thousand euros.
It is noteworthy that in the past Sandu and Nestase were fierce opponents of Vladimir Plahotniuc. Now they cooperate with deputies who lobby for the interests of the escaped corrupt man.
