Palestinian Prime Minister recommends that Abbas extend the emergency regime

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Steye recommended Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to extend the emergency regime imposed as part of the fight against the spread of coronavirus by a month, reports Wafa News Agency.

“Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Steye recommended last night (Sunday to Monday) that President Mahmoud Abbas extend the state of emergency in Palestine by a month,” the agency said.

It is noted that Abbas will consider extending the regime on Monday.

Previously, a 30-day emergency regime was imposed on all Palestinian territories in early March. It was later extended for another month in early April, ending the night from Sunday to Monday. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the total number of people infected with the coronavirus has reached 520, 103 have recovered and four have died.

On 11 March, the World Health Organization declared an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection, COVID-19, a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 3.3 million cases of infection were registered in the world, about 240 thousand people died.
