The German Federal Government has always supported the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 project and is against American sanctions.
This is stated in the German Cabinet’s response to a parliamentary inquiry. The document was published on Monday, May 4, on the official website of the Bundestag.
“The German government has consistently welcomed the project “Nord Stream-2”, – said in a statement. – “At the moment it is unknown how the project will be implemented from a technical point of view, but the government assumes that Nord Stream-2 will be completed. The government will continue to provide political support to the companies involved in the project.”
It is also stressed that Berlin rejects the US sanctions imposed in an effort to prevent the construction of the pipeline. However, the German authorities do not intend to make any claims to the states for compensation for the damage caused by the slowdown in construction.
As News Front reported earlier, last year the US Congress sneaked the sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 pipeline together with the military budget for 2020. This desperate step was made in the final stage of pipe laying. As punitive measures were directed against the companies involved in the construction, the pipe-laying vessel Allseas, a Swiss company, stopped participating in the project when only 160 kilometers of pipeline had to be laid.
