Russia condemns the shelling of the Cuban embassy in Washington, noting that host states must provide security guarantees, the Russian embassy in the United States said.
The attacker opened fire on the building of the Cuban Embassy in Washington at about 2 a.m. local time; the suspect was detained, the Washington Post reported citing the police. As the Cuban Foreign Ministry later said, the mission’s employees were not injured and are safe, an investigation is underway.
“We condemn the shelling of the Cuban Embassy in Washington. We believe that all countries rely on security guarantees provided by the host states in accordance with international legal obligations in matters of security for their diplomatic missions”, – the embassy said in a statement on Facebook.
According to CNN, citing the police, the identity of the alleged offender has been established. He is a 42-year-old Alexander Alazo from Texas. He was charged with assault for the purpose of murder. The motives of the attacker are still unknown.
