Source: London will sacrifice a deal with the EU so as not to extend the transition period

Britain has its own red lines, which the government does not intend to cross.

This was told by a source close to the negotiation process between London and Brussels in a comment to the Bloomberg agency.

“The European Union should understand that the UK takes seriously its red lines in negotiations about its future relationship”, –  the agency said.

According to him, the EU’s demand for permanent access to British fishing waters is considered unacceptable in London. This jeopardizes the agreement, says the source. He also said that in June, the British authorities intend to assess the achievements in the negotiations and decide whether to continue the dialogue or prepare for a tough scenario – the end of the transition period without a deal.

As News Front reported earlier, the transition period implies cooperation between the UK and the EU on the same terms. However, it will end by the end of 2020. Until then, the parties must conclude an agreement or trade on WTO terms. In fact, it negates the meaning of the deal on Brexit. At the same time London has the right to request an extension of the transition period, but it must be done by July.
