Corona-business on Ukrainian migrants – crossing the Polish border became paid for

To cross a three-hundred meter stretch of road between the Polish and Ukrainian checkpoints, you have to pay from 300 to 350 PLN.

This was reported by the Ukrainian newspaper Strana, citing its own sources.

Money from the Ukrainians began to be levied against the background of quarantine. Now the border is crossed by about five hundred people daily, and local officials saw in it an opportunity to earn, and unofficially. As a result, private carriers were allowed to cross the border, transporting people from one checkpoint to another for cash.

When traveling from the Ukrainian side, passengers are forced to pay 300-350 PLN [72-84 USD]. On the Polish side the price tag is much lower – from 20 to 50 PLN [5-12 USD]. We would like to remind you that the distance between the checkpoints is 300 meters. According to the newspaper, about 500 people cross the border per day. This makes it possible to get about 6 thousand dollars of profit per day.

It is noteworthy that border guards, customs officers, and even local authorities claim that the scandalous business is not related to, and the price is set by the carriers. At the same time, officials do not specify what kind of carriers have deployed their activities at the border. The authorities assured that the situation is allegedly being dealt with by the police, but the business has been successfully operating for a month and a half.
