A new parliamentary majority has been formed in Kosovo

The main tasks of the new government will be to fight against Covid-19 and overcome the economic consequences of the pandemic.

The “Democratic Union of Kosovo” of former Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and the “Alliance for the Future of Kosovo” of another former Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, have reached an agreement on the formation of a new government and are calling for a parliament to be convened as soon as possible. Avdulah Hoti, the candidate of DSK for the post of Prime Minister, has stated this, a Radio Liberty correspondent reports.

After the October 2019 elections, the political parties agreed for four months to form a new governing coalition. In early February 2020, authorities formed Albin Curti’s left-wing nationalist movement Self-determination, which became prime minister.

That Government resigned on 25 March because coalition partners proved unable to reach a consensus on most issues necessary for the effective functioning of the State.

President Hashim Thaci proposed that Albin Kurti form a new majority. He refused and demanded that the head of state call new elections. Thaçi therefore gave him the chance to form a majority of the second largest political party.

Former Prime Minister Haradinai said the main tasks of the new government will be to fight against COVID-19 and overcome the economic consequences of the pandemic.
