They must act to create “a new economy and more jobs”, says the international organization.
The UN calls on all governments to take urgent action to create new economies and jobs in the wake of the pandemic. The UN’s Roadmap for an Immediate Social and Economic Response to COVID-19, published on Monday, said.
“There will be no return to the ‘old normality’, governments must act to create a new economy and more jobs”, – the document says.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General António Guterres presented a report analysing the main socio-economic threats posed by the Coronavirus pandemic.
“One of the key components of the UN’s work is to save lives, protect people and recreate a better society after a health threat has been responded to under the auspices of the World Health Organization”, – the report said on Monday.
The UN has named three “cornerstones of the response”. The first is the work of the Solidarity Response Fund (established in March at the initiative of WHO to finance the fight against coronavirus) to fight the infection, overseen by the UN Foundation and the Swiss Charitable Foundation to address immediate health threats. The second is the UN plan for a global humanitarian response to the pandemic. And the third is the implementation of the UN socio-economic recovery plan.
