First of all, the Poles intend to seize Nord Stream AG and Nord Stream 2 AG shares and slow down Nord Stream-2 construction.
Deputy Minister of State Assets of the Republic Janusz Kowalski said that the Polish government intends to seize Gazprom’s assets in Europe as compensation, which was awarded to the energy concern PGNiG (PGNiG) by the Arbitration Court in Stockholm, which was considering Poland’s complaint about prices for Russian gas supplied to the Republic.
“Today, when we have the question of how to recover from Gazprom more than 6 billion PLN ($1.5 billion), which were awarded to the Polish side through the Stockholm Arbitration Court in favor of PGNiG for overpayment for gas, in my opinion, the best option is exactly such a tough withdrawal. PGNiG is also following this direction today”, – Kowalski said.
The Polish official did not hide that the main goal of the demarche is an attempt to stop the construction of Nord Stream-2.
“First of all, if the Russians do not respect the law, I think it’s a good idea to take first of all shares of Nord Stream AG and Nord Stream 2 AG. This may also lead to a delay in the Nord Stream 2 project implementation”, – Kowalski added, emphasizing that one should not make any concessions in the case of receiving compensation from Gazprom.
