Abe said the coronavirus situation is worse than the Great Depression

To end the pandemic, drugs and vaccines must be produced, added the Prime Minister of Japan.

People around the world are experiencing a crisis situation caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic, psychologically worse than during the Great Depression in the United States. This opinion was expressed on Tuesday by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, speaking at a parliamentary debate.

“In a sense, psychologically now the situation is more severe than during the Great Depression”, –  he said.

“To end [the pandemic], drugs and vaccines against coronavirus must be produced. We want to develop an efficient vaccine as soon as possible and to succeed”, –  the prime minister added.

October 29, 1929 the collapse occurred on the New York Stock Exchange, later called “Black Tuesday”. It was a harbinger of the largest financial crisis in world history. The collapse of the New York Stock Exchange actually led to the collapse of the U.S. banking system. Four waves of “bank panic” swept through the country – in autumn 1930, spring of 1931, autumn of 1931 and autumn-winter of 1932-1933. As a result, from January 1930 to March 1933, one fifth of the banks (over 5.2 thousand) went bankrupt.

Since the beginning of the pandemic coronavirus in the world have infected more than 3 million people, almost 210 thousand died.
