A potential Kosovo Prime Minister already promises to serve U.S. interests faithfully

In an effort to take over the post of head of the Kosovo “government”, Avdullah Hoti assured that he would not make decisions that were not in the interests of “international partners”.

Speaking on the local TV channel “T7”, the representative of the Democratic League of Kosovo voiced the priorities of his work, including “resumption of good relations with the U.S.”, as well as “abolition of reciprocity measures with Serbia”. The latter, according to Hoti, will be “one of the soonest decisions” of the executive body.

“One hundred percent duties have been abolished, but we still have no positive effect”, –  the politician says. – “Some of the implemented reciprocity measures will be canceled in cooperation with our international partners. Neither duties nor reciprocity measures are in the interests of Kosovo if they are not supported by our external partners.”

As News Front reported, Albin Kurti’s “government” had previously passed a vote of no confidence. The official reason for this decision in Pristina was disagreement over the declaration of a state of emergency due to the spread of the coronavirus infection COVID-19. In fact, Kurty refused to obey Washington. In particular, this was manifested in the issue of lifting duties on Serbian goods.

The duties were introduced back in the fall of 2018. This decision led to a freeze in the dialogue with Belgrade on the Kosovo settlement. Recently, the United States has insisted on the resumption of negotiations. As a consequence, Washington has repeatedly pointed out that duties should be abolished, but Kosovo elites have ignored the demands of Western patrons.
