US unemployment rate seeks to break record since the Great Depression

Apart from the coronavirus, the US will have to deal with unemployment. In just one week, 4.4 million more applications for unemployment benefits were submitted.

In just one month, the total number of unemployed rose to 26 million people.

Even during the 2008 crisis there were fewer unemployed – 11 million people.

The unemployment rate in the USA has approached 20%. This is the maximum since 1935, when the country suffered from an acute phase of the Great Depression.
