Trump: U.S. forces will open fire on Iranian boats approaching U.S. ships

The American leader added that Washington was “closely watching” Tehran’s actions.

The U.S. military will open fire on Iranian military boats heading for a dangerous rapprochement with U.S. Navy ships. This was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, answering questions from journalists at the White House.

“Iran is a threat. We have to smash them down into ashes on the water,” the president said. “We don’t want their military boats to surround our ships, sail around our ships and have fun. We don’t want them even approaching our ships”, –  the American leader added.

“If they do that, it puts our wonderful [U.S. Navy] crew members, the sailors, in danger. I am not going to let this happen”, –  Trump concluded.

On Twitter Wednesday, he said he instructed the Navy to destroy any Iranian boats that are obstructing U.S. ships at sea. Iranian naval spokesman Abolfazl Shakarchi said Washington should withdraw its forces from the Middle East to mobilize them to fight the new coronavirus pandemic, he said.
