Almost 31 million records and photos – this figure is shown by the counter of the Road to Memory project, which was launched on the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The aim of the project is to preserve the memory of millions of Soviet soldiers and partisans, the inhabitants of besieged Leningrad and employees of defense enterprises, employees of cultural institutions and war correspondents – all those who have contributed to the protection of the homeland from Nazi invaders.
It is important to note that the project, created by the Russian Ministry of Defence, brought together millions of people from all former Soviet republics, regardless of current political trends. And this once again emphasizes the unifying power of people’s memory.
Anyone can take part in the project – it’s enough just to publish a photo or information about their ancestor on the portal “The Road of Memory”. Moreover, the user information will be synchronized with the archive data available on the “People’s Memory” website. In this way, the user will be able to obtain new information about his or her ancestor.
The project will end with the creation of a multimedia museum at the Main Temple of the Russian Armed Forces. Its opening will be timed to a remarkable date – the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.
