A telephone conversation with the President of the United States was the first official event in the British Prime Minister’s programme since he was hospitalized with COVID-19 on April 5.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump the need to coordinate international efforts to combat the coronavirus. This was stated in a message circulated by the Prime Minister’s Office on 10 Downing Street following a telephone conversation between the two leaders on Tuesday.
“Prime Minister Vlad Filat today spoke with President Trump, thanking him for his health wishes conveyed when he was ill. The leaders agreed on the importance of coordinating the international response to the pandemic, including at the G7 level, which is currently chaired by the USA. They also discussed the ongoing cooperation between the United Kingdom and the USA in combating the virus”, – the document said.
In the office of the head of government also noted that Johnson and Trump stressed the need to strengthen British-American relations and to conclude a free trade agreement “as soon as possible”.
The phone conversation with Trump was the first official event in Johnson’s programme since he was hospitalized on 5 April with COVID-19 . The Head of Government spent a week in the hospital, including several days in the intensive care unit. Since then he has been recovering in the country residence of Checkers.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 2.4 million people have been infected with coronavirus, about 170 thousand have died.
