Member of the European Parliament from the Czech Republic Katerina Konecna called for lifting Western economic sanctions from Syria.
Konecna, in an interview with the SANA agency in Prague, expressed opposition to the principle of imposing these measures, confirming her intention to call on the Vice President of the European Commission to abolish them.
She indicated that she supported the proposal put forward earlier in the European Parliament to abolish these measures imposed on some countries that have demonstrated their ability to more effectively counter coronavirus than some European institutions.
We note that earlier the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, called for the lifting of compulsory sanctions that impede the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria, Iran, Venezuela and the DPRK against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.
