While four years ago only a handful of politicians from both American parties believed in Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, now the situation has changed dramatically.
The New York Times writes about it.
As noted in the media, the fear of Trump’s re-election forced the Democrats to do everything possible to eliminate Bernie Sanders, who was interfering with the key candidate of the party Joe Biden. If in 2008 and 2016 the Democratic Party primaries were held to their victorious end, in 2020 the risk was considered unreasonable.
The former governor of Vermont Howard Dean noted that it was necessary to take Sanders out of race accurately and without enmity. That’s why the 78-year-old senator tellingly lost to Biden. According to Dean, it should help the Democrats not lose Saunders’ electorate.
The Democratic Party has not seen such mobilization in 16 years. The reason for that is that no one else doubts Donald Trump’s victory. Democrat and political consultant Paul Begala stresses that the “threat” of Trump’s re-election is “extremely high”. It has been the Democrats’ greatest fear for the last four years, and now it is coming true. The coronavirus epidemic plays Trump’s hand, and now there is “no room for a normal game” in the presidential race, Paul Begala believes.
