Iran calls on Europe to meet all its nuclear deal obligations

Tehran also welcomes the launch of the interbank mechanism established to ensure operations under US sanctions.

Tehran calls on EU countries to fulfil all commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JPOA). This was stated by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Musawi at an online press conference on Monday.

“We welcome the launch of INSTEX, but it is better for Europe to meet its commitments in all areas,” he said. Mousavi said, “INSTEX is only the first step for European countries to deliver on their promises.

On March 31, the FRG Foreign Ministry informed that France, Germany and the UK had conducted the first deal with Iran on supply of medical goods using INSTEX, which was established in January 2019 to ensure banking operations under the U.S. sanctions.

The U.S. imposed sanctions on Tehran in the area of oil exports after its unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan on Iran’s Nuclear Programme on May 8, 2018. According to the Iranian side, the other parties to the agreement, especially the Europeans, do not fully adhere to their obligations in the economic part of the deal, so it does not make sense in its current form.
