In Germany, there is growing dissatisfaction with the rules introduced in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, which, according to citizens, are contrary to law.
Now, after a hasty decision of the Federal Constitutional Court, the city of Giessen approved the demonstration, which was initially banned.
Under the motto “Promote health instead of weakening basic rights – protection from viruses, not from people”, several demonstrations were announced on April 4. With reference to the relevant rules adopted in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the city of Giessen banned these demonstrations. But the Federal Constitutional Court found that the ban violates laws.
In particular, the Federal Supreme Court of Germany affirmed that, despite the applicable regulations for combating coronavirus, it is possible at its discretion to take into account freedom of assembly, which is protected by fundamental rights.
Peter Neidel, Mayor of Giessen, announced his decision on the execution of the court’s verdict: “We reviewed this issue and conditionally approved the demonstration.”
