The UN has warned of the possible death of hundreds of thousands of children as a result of the pandemic

The general secretary of the organization António Guterres noted that the decrease in income can lead to families spending less money on healthy food.

Hundreds of thousands of children will be at risk in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. This was said in a statement issued Thursday by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

“Hundreds of thousands of children may die during 2020 as a result of the global recession”, –  the UN head said.

“Reduced income may result in families allocating less money for healthy nutrition, and this particularly affects children, pregnant women, nursing mothers”, –  he added.

In addition, according to Guterres, vaccination campaigns against measles and polio have been stopped in several countries. “And given the overcrowding in hospitals, sick children may not get treatment in time,” he said.
