The UN has begun to provide aid to Africa to fight the pandemic

The first UN plane arrived in the Ethiopian capital.

The first UN plane with medical assistance for African countries in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic has arrived in the capital of Ethiopia. Official representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Dujarrick told journalists on Tuesday.

He informed that the first of the so-called UN solidarity flights had already landed the day before in Addis Ababa.

“The plane has delivered aid to the World Health Organization, which will be distributed among 32 countries of the African continent”, –  the representative of the General Secretary said.

Djuzharrik explained that such flights will be part of the assistance strategy for the region where many countries are most vulnerable to the pandemic. The World Food Programme has opened a new hub at Addis Ababa International Airport, from where medical supplies and equipment will be delivered to the entire continent,” he continued. – Medical evacuations will also be carried out from there.
