The US healthcare system was not ready for the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is largely the responsibility of Donald Trump, member of the Federation Council, Senator Igor Morozov said in a comment to FAN.
As the senator noted, the health care reform has not been formed in the United States. For eight years, former President Barack Obama has sought to change it in favor of Americans who have below-average incomes.
“Trump rejected this reform as soon as he came. And about 20 million Americans did not have insurance at the beginning of the coronavirus infection. It turned out to be the most vulnerable part of the population that fell under the pandemic. And almost all the major deaths are attributable to it. Now the peak of mortality for those who do not have insurance, who do not have housing. The hardest time has come for them today. And a rich and powerful state with democratic values does not protect them at all. It left them to their fate”, – Igor Morozov explained.
Also, according to the senator, US health care could not withstand the onslaught of the pandemic because Donald Trump did not take the initial steps that Russia took at the very first stage, which cannot but affect its election campaign.
A similar opinion was expressed by political analyst Maxim Zharov – according to him, Trump for a long time did not believe in the seriousness of the threat of the coronavirus, in connection with this he could face a new impeachment that would call into question his second presidential term.
Currently, the United States is in first place in the world in the number of patients (about 608 thousand) and those who died (almost 26 thousand) from coronavirus, over the past day the number of victims was a record of 2,228 people, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
