After countries of Europe, panic-stricken because of COVID-19 outbreak in Italy, plunged the EU into chaos, isolated from each other, the community is now waiting for a new blow.
It will happen when countries start to randomly cancel quarantine measures.
In this regard, Brussels is trying to take control of the process, hoping to prevent a potentially catastrophic easing of the constraints holding back the spread of the coronavirus infection. As you know, some EU countries have already embarked on a reduction of quarantine measures, and the European Commission on Wednesday, April 15, published a roadmap coordinating the lifting of restrictions.
In the EC, with reference to the data of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, it is being recalled that about 80 thousand people became victims of coronavirus in Europe, which makes about two thirds of the total number of deaths in the world. An uncontrolled relaxation of restrictions, as stated in the roadmap, “will inevitably lead to a corresponding increase in new cases”.
As planned by Brussels, the process of lifting quarantine measures should take several months. Moreover, this should happen at a time when the spread of the virus will decline, and hospitals will probably be able to cope with the influx of infected people.
“The exit should be gradual”, – the EC emphasizes, without explaining the legislative mechanisms of the collective process. At the same time, in Brussels, they say that there should be a gap of about one month between any steps, “since their influence can only be assessed over time”.
