Serbian Ambassador thanks Russia for assistance in the fight against coronavirus

Russia’s assistance to Belgrade in the fight against COVID-19 was timely and of high quality, Serbia is deeply grateful and will never forget about it, the republic’s ambassador to Moscow Miroslav Lazanski told the reporters.

“The entire Serbian public, the Serbian people and the state, as well as the Embassy of Serbia in Moscow express gratitude to the Russian Federation for their assistance in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Russian assistance was timely, and taking into account the population of Serbia and the degree of spread of the pandemic is the most voluminous assistance, provided by Russia to a foreign state”, – Lazanski said.

“Russian assistance is also characterized by the quality of the structure of specialists who came to Serbia. This is especially valuable for us, given the Russian experience in emergency situations. Serbian citizens feel respect and deep appreciation to the Russian military, doctors, pilots who brought help. We will never forget”, – he stressed.

The diplomat recalled that “humanitarian aid was sent to Serbia after a telephone conversation between President of Serbia Alexander Vucic and Russian President Vladimir Putin”.

“In less than 24 hours, 11 large aircraft of the Ilyushin company of the Russian Aerospace Forces flew to Serbia, which indicates the quality and great capabilities of the air logistics of the Russian army”, – he said.

The Russian military continues to work in Serbia, at the request of Belgrade, helping to disinfect local institutions. In addition, the Russian Emergencies Ministry will send humanitarian aid to the republic to protect local firefighters from coronavirus infection.

The number of coronavirus victims in Serbia has reached 94 people, the number of infected has exceeded 4.4 thousand, doctors said earlier.

The World Health Organization on March 11 announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 with a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 1.8 million cases of infection have been recorded in the world, over 113 thousand people have died.
