The arena of the youth team of the Swedish hockey club Djurgården from Stockholm will be converted into a morgue during the coronavirus pandemic.
It is reported by the Swedish newspaper Expressen.
It is noted that other arenas in Stockholm can be converted in a similar way. This measure may become necessary in case of shortage of places in the morgues of the city.
“Now we have free places for 335 dead, there is an opportunity to find places for another 500-700 people who died”, – said Joakim Järnried, Head of the Stockholm District Council.
“We contacted the administration of the cemeteries and the Stockholm authorities to use ice arenas as morgues”.
The outbreak of the disease he caused was recorded at the end of 2019 in Central China and later spread to most countries. On March 11, the World Health Organization recognized it as a pandemic. More than 1.9 million people have been infected with coronavirus in the world, over 119 thousand have died. In Sweden, more than 10 thousand cases of infection were recorded, more than 900 people died.
