The UK Ministry of Health statistics only considers those who died from COVID-19 in hospital after complications, and does not include data on the victims of the disease in nursing homes and other places, reports EADaily with reference to CNN.
The number of deaths from coronavirus in the United Kingdom, according to new data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), is significantly higher than the figures indicated by the British government in daily updates. ONS publishes more complete data that records all deaths when the coronavirus is mentioned in the death certificate, regardless of whether a person died in a hospital, at home or elsewhere, CNN broadcasts.
Thus, according to ONS, the number of deaths from coronavirus registered in the UK before April 3 was 5,979. In a daily update published the next day by the government of the country, only 3,939 deaths were reported. Thus, in early April, the gap between ONS statistics and government reports was more than 50 percent. However, to date, this gap has narrowed to about 15%.
This confusion means that making a direct comparison between the coronavirus mortality curve in the UK and similar curves in other European countries is difficult, CNN notes.
