Previously, the vote was scheduled for May 17.
The Central Electoral Commission of the Dominican Republic decided to postpone, owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held on 17 May.
“The CEC plenary session postponed the elections in May due to a sanitary emergency. The first round of elections will be held on July 5, while the second round, if necessary, will be held on July 26”, – the CEC said in a statement posted on Monday on its Twitter page.
According to official data, the number of those infected with coronavirus in the Dominican Republic has reached 3,167 and 177 people have died.
