During the crisis, the UK, Germany and other European countries are not interested in “feeding” migrant workers from the Baltic States.
In Western Europe, they are fleeing the crisis by sacrificing the Baltic States.
This was told by Vasiliy Koltashov, head of the Centre for Political Economy Studies of the New Society Institute, in his commentary to the Baltnews publication.
According to him, the crown-crisis will be the most difficult for Europe. He explained this by the fact that the crisis of 2013-2016 practically did not affect the United States, Britain and the European Union. Thus, the Western countries will be subjected to a “double blow” and no one from the Baltic States will create a “showcase of prosperity”.
Koltashov drew attention to the way labor migrants are “squeezed” from Western Europe back to the Baltics under the guise of quarantine measures. He explains such trends by the need to free as many jobs as possible for local residents who have faced unemployment.
“The crisis is pushing local people out of the service sector, out of fitness trainers and so on. They will also take jobs as garbage collectors, any job when the situation gets worse”, – the expert continues.
Against this background, the Baltic States can only take back their citizens, which is a disaster for the economy of the republics. The problem is, says Koltashov, that the authorities of these countries are always ruining trade relations with Russia. This happens even at a time when there is no one else artificially supporting the economies of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
