Lesbos: Refugees destroyed 5,000 olive trees

In Lesbos, where there has been constant unrest for several months around the completely crowded Moriah camp, new attacks are currently being reported.

Dissatisfied with the housing and police actions, the residents of the camp destroyed more than 5,000 olive trees in the surrounding hills. Local farmers were left with ruins.

Olive groves are the main source of income for farmers and the local population in many Greek islands. The Greek state earns 650 million euros from the export of olives and products from them. An olive tree may require up to 80 years to obtain higher yields. Trees grow very slowly and can be 1000 years or older. The economic damage to Lesbos is huge because many of the destroyed trees were already old.

There are currently 50,000 migrants in Lesbos who are expecting a trip to Central Europe.

We remind you that just a few weeks ago, migrants from Moriah camp also devastated the local Orthodox Church.
