Emergency regime introduced in Nagorno-Karabakh due to coronavirus

An emergency regime was introduced for a month in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic because of the coronavirus, the press service of the President of Karabakh Bako Sahakyan said on Sunday.

“The president sent a message to the citizens of the republic and said that he had signed a decree on the introduction of an emergency regime in the Republic of Artsakh (self-name of Karabakh – approx. Ed.) In order to prevent the spread of a new coronavirus infection and protect the population from the threat of a coronavirus pandemic,” message posted on the site of the Karabakh leader.

Sahakyan’s decree says that the emergency regime will be in effect from April 12 to May 12. It also notes that cases of coronavirus detected in Karabakh require additional measures, including during the second round of the presidential election on April 14.

According to the press service, Sahakyan held an expanded meeting of an interagency commission on Sunday coordinating efforts to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. The meeting was attended by representatives of the legislative, executive and judicial bodies.

According to authorities of the unrecognized republic, five cases of coronavirus were detected in Karabakh, nine people were isolated.
