The collapse, which had previously befallen the medical facilities due to the influx of infected people, now spread to New York funeral homes, crematoriums and cemeteries.
This was reported by The Guardian.
The situation reached the point where some funeral homes were forced to ask families to try to keep the bodies of their loved ones in hospitals for as long as possible to allow the funeral services to cope with the load. However, some crematoriums and even cemeteries are booked several weeks in advance.
“Over the past couple of weeks, things have gotten out of control”, – said Matthew Pinto, director of the Manhattan funeral home.
“On a typical day, our funeral home made one or two calls. Now we are doing eight or nine. Honestly, we are not ready for this”.
As noted in the media, many bureaus are faced with the fact that they have run out of space in warehouses where they store bodies. Some are trying to rent refrigerated trucks.
As News Front previously reported, the world record for coronavirus daily deaths was broken in the United States. Moreover, the total number of infected COVID-19 reached half a million people.
New York remains the epicenter of the epidemic in the United States. Only here the number of victims is about 6 thousand. Residents of the city who died from coronavirus infection were buried in mass graves. Footage of the burial process appeared the day before. They were made on Hart Island in Long Island Strait. Until now, local authorities have buried here the homeless and those who simply do not have relatives or the opportunity to pay for the burial.
