Sanders said he’s out of the Democrats race because of the coronavirus

According to the senator, he must take action in the light of the unprecedented crisis facing the country.

Senator from the American state of Vermont Bernie Sanders came out of the electoral race of the Democrats, mainly due to the spread of the new coronavirus in the U.S.

“I think my opinion was ultimately influenced by the fact that, as a U.S. senator, I have to take action in the light of the unprecedented crisis that the country faced during the pandemic, as well as the fact that at least 17 million people have already lost their jobs”, –  stated the senator.

He noted that he intends “to do everything possible to protect workers in the country during the economic crisis and to provide all those in need with health insurance.

Sanders stressed that some of his supporters recommended him to continue his participation in the race, despite the fact that he lagged behind former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden in the number of votes received by delegates to the Democratic Party Congress. Earlier this year, the senator was for several weeks considered a leader in the struggle for a Democrat candidate for the US presidency. Later, Biden became a favorite of the race.

Sanders announced the end of the struggle for the nomination of a Democrat candidate to the US presidency on Wednesday. At that time, according to the New York Times, Biden was ready to support 1,217 delegates to the national congress, while Sanders – 914. The newspaper noted that the gap in the number of votes that Biden had, was “almost insurmountable” for Sanders.

The National Congress of the Democratic Party of the USA, at which Biden is expected to be named as a candidate for the presidency of the USA, is planned for the middle of August in Milwaukee (Wisconsin). Earlier it was scheduled for July 13-16. The event was postponed due to the pandemic. Presidential elections in the United States are scheduled for November 3.

According to Johns Hopkins University, which carries out calculations based on information from federal and local authorities, more than 462 thousand cases of infection with coronavirus have been recorded in the United States. More than 16.5 thousand people died.
